Summer Cooking Camps

OVERVIEW: Choose from 3 exciting cooking camps:

  1. June - Baking Bonanza

  2. July - Kitchen Bootcamp

  3. August - Farm Market Fresh!

A different camp is offered each month. Camps run 4 days, Monday thru Thursday.

SKILLS: The kids and teens do all of the work in these classes: measuring, mixing, chopping, whisking, kneading, and stirring on the stove, to name a few! We will practice some science, math, and even art along the way. 

FORMAT: These classes are all hands on. We will make several recipes as a group and enjoy our meal at the end of class. Take home recipes and any leftovers. Age ranges are suggested. Email sue@realfood4kids.com with questions.

What could be better than a week of baking? I hope your child is as excited to take this class as we are to teach it! Each day, we will have a different focus. Menus include:

  • Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie Showdown

  • Scratch Bagels & Schmears

  • Cake Creation and Decoration

  • Brioche and pastry

SUMMER CAMP 2: KITCHEN BOOTCAMP - SINGLE DAYS AVAILABLE

This is the perfect time of year for your kids to learn some self-sufficiency in the kitchen. Each day, we’ll focus on a different meal and teach your kids how to create their own food from scratch. They’ll have plenty of time to practice it too, before going back to school in the fall. If all goes according to plan, they’ll be making their own breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and even cooking your family dinner! Each day, we will have a different focus. Menus include:

  • Bring on Breakfast: Sheet pan french toast, baked eggs, sweet potato home fries, apple & pear sauce.

  • What’s for Lunch: Taco, burrito, and tostado bar with all the fixings!

  • Snack Time: No-bake cereal bars with homemade peanut butter, smoothies, popsicles, and a healthy berry crumble.

  • One Pot Dinners: Pasta with veggies, polenta with sausage ragu, and stir fry with rice.

SUMMER CAMP 3: FARM MARKET FRESH - SINGLE DAYS AVAILABLE

Our goal is to introduce your kids to a variety of Iowa’s summer bounty. We’ve seen how kids are more willing to try new foods in the company of others. We hope this week leads to increased requests for a wider range of farm fresh food. Each day, we will have a different focus. Menus include:

  • Monday - Farmers Market Breakfast Sandwiches including homemade English Muffins, Breakfast BLTs, Refrigerator Jam, and more!

  • Tuesday - Souper Soups including Potato & Bacon, Tortellini, and a Veggie based soup with Fritters on the side (or to dunk!)

  • Wednesday - Salads Galore (with Homemade Dressings) including Panzanella, Spirialized Veggies, Fruit Salads, and more!

  • Thursday - Market Fresh Pizza Throwdown! including Dough from scratch, a variety of toppings that they will make, and dessert!
