PRIVATE PARTIES

HANDS-ON COOKING CLASSES DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU!

You get to design the menu for these classes, and the options are endless! We typically make about 3 recipes that you help choose. The class lasts 2 hours and we eat what we make at the end of class. I encourage everyone to participate as much as possible and we make nearly everything from scratch. We've made nearly everything you can think of, from homemade pasta and ravioli to cakes with fondant to enchiladas with homemade tortillas. If you give me an idea of what you would like to make, I can provide some suggestions.

IN PERSON

$450 for up to 8 people, and $60 for each additional person up to a maximum of 12. You are welcome to come to my rental kitchen at 1139 24th St, Des Moines 50311, but the time is limited to 2 - 2.5 hours. I can also come to your location if you want additional time for other activities. I bring all of the ingredients and much of the equipment with me. At a minimum, I would use your oven, stove, and sink. I usually bring someone along to wash dishes as we go.

ONLINE VIA ZOOM

$300 for a 2-hour class. We can also offer a shorter 1-hour class for $200. I will send grocery lists, equipment lists, recipes, and a Zoom link 1 week in advance of the class. We will work together online to make the recipes and enjoy them at the end of class. Chatting with other participants is encouraged! The session can be recorded in case any of the participants are unable to attend or have internet issues.

Food Education CuRRICULUMS & Classes for Pre-K thru High School

OUR CURRICULUM-BASED CLASSES WILL TEACH KIDS & TEENS ABOUT FOOD:
WHERE IT COMES FROM, HOW IT’S PREPARED, AND HOW TO MAKE CHOICES THAT WILL MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THEIR HEALTH

an easy, educational (and fun) experience

Our kids & teens will have to make choices about food every day of their life, so
let’s give them the tools to develop lifelong skills that will impact their health in a positive way.

We Believe:

✔︎ When learning about food, kids have the opportunity to come together and apply science, math, and art.
✔︎ Kids need to know where food comes from and how it’s produced.
✔︎ Kids need to know how to read a label and understand what they’re eating.
✔︎ Kids need to know how food marketing impacts their choices.
✔︎ Kids need to know the basics of how to cook.

We offer:

• Food Education classes, both in-person and virtual.
• Curriculums designed for each grade level from pre-K thru 12th grade.

Our kids will make choices about food every day of their life. While they are young, eating habits are still being formed and there is an eagerness to learn. Let’s give them the tools to develop a lifelong skill that impacts their health in a positive way. With grade appropriate, interactive lessons, we use math, science, and art to teach kids about food. We’ll discover rainbows, fractions and chemical reactions.

group classes

Each class discovers how to trace their favorite foods back to their roots and prepare simple snacks that they can replicate at home. They'll learn where food comes from, how it's produced, the benefits and drawbacks of processed foods, and why it's important to read an ingredient label. Good for classrooms, after-school programs, community centers, fitness clubs, churches, team sports, libraries, and even restaurants.

Curriculum EXAMPLES

Early Childhood: Where do fruits + vegetables grow on the plant? All about animals. The grains we eat. Elementary: How do you read an ingredient statement? A nutrition facts panel? How much sugar is in your favorite beverage? Middle School: Food safety + allergies. Farm to table. Food insecurity. High School: Food + Mood, Food Marketing. Balanced Eating + Meal Planning. Food and Community Bonus: Food Around the World
