Weekly Food Challenge: Try Something New

For many of us with kids in our lives, we have Spring Break around this timeframe. Whether you're staying home or traveling, use this break as an opportunity to try something new in the world of food! Mixing up your routine typically makes it easier for kids to try something new. Here are 3 ideas!

1️⃣ Try a new food, especially if you're traveling! Seek out what’s local to the area you’re in and give it a try. It may be a new food, or a different preparation of something you’re used to eating. Whether it’s a different part of town, the country, or the world, you can usually find something different from the norm.

2️⃣ If you’re staying home and have extra time, try making a new recipe: experiment with yeast to make bread or try making pasta from scratch! I recently had a parent tell me that their child tried making croissants for the first time over Spring Break, and they were delicious! Especially if you have long stretch of time, pick something new and give it a try!

3️⃣ Pick a restaurant with an unfamiliar cuisine and give it a try; ask the server what they recommend and why. You’ll never know what’s out there if you don’t look for it! If it’s intimidating to read through an unfamiliar menu, ask your server what they recommend. You can tell them what you typically like, and they can give you ideas of similar foods with a different preparation. Or they can give you ideas of foods prepared using a familiar cooking method, with different ingredients than you’re used to eating.
