It’s football season and time to gather with friends and family to watch the big game! Let your kids get involved in prepping the food by making this easy recipe!

Baked Mozzarella Sticks

INGREDIENTS

  • 5 slices frozen whole-grain bread (or, use a cup of prepared bread crumbs)

  • 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano

  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme

  • 1 egg

  • 8 mozzarella cheese sticks

  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 375.

  2. Place the frozen bread in a food processor and pulse until medium crumbs form. Place crumbs in a shallow but wide dish. Stir in cheese, olive oil, thyme, and oregano. In another dish, add the egg and mix with a fork. In a third dish, add the flour.

  3. Unwrap the cheese sticks, and first roll in flour, then in the egg, and finally in the breadcrumb mixture. Make sure each stick is well coated, and place it on a greased broiler pan (or cookie sheet).

  4. Bake 6-8 minutes, checking after 4 minutes until cheese is just melted but not runny.

Serve with marinara sauce

INGREDIENTS

  • 14-ounce can whole peeled tomatoes

  • 2 ounces can tomato paste

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • salt and pepper

  • oregano and or basil to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Place whole peeled tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, salt, pepper, and spices in a food processor. Mix until well blended. Serve with mozzarella sticks.
