RECIPE: Sloppy Joes

Instead of cracking open a can of sloppy joe sauce, make it from scratch!

Most canned sauces like Manwich have ingredients that you won't find in your pantry, like high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, xanthan gum, guar gum, and carrot fiber....what is carrot fiber?

Our recipe has less than 10 ingredients and mixing them up can take less than 10 minutes. Give it a try and let us know what you think!

Sloppy Joes

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (can substitute turkey)

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • ¾ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 small onion, diced (optional)

  • 1 small red pepper, diced (optional)

  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce, plain

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder

  1. In a saute pan, cook the beef over medium heat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until it is browned all the way through. Carefully pour off excess grease, away from the flame.

  2. Add brown sugar, pepper, and salt to the pan, and stir to combine. Add onion and pepper, if using, and combine. Add tomato sauce, paste, vinegar, Worcestershire, and mustard. Combine and simmer for 10 minutes until sauce thickens. Serve on buns.
