"You can eat whatever you want...

…as long as you cook it yourself.” - Michael Pollan

While we really do love the intent behind his quote, we like to take it one step further and say

You can eat whatever you want, as long as you MAKE IT FROM SCRATCH.

So, YES, can you eat

  • Cookies ✅

  • Cake ✅

  • Pastries ✅

  • A really fudge-y warm chocolate pudding ✅

But, instead of reaching for the pre-packaged dough in the refrigerated section of the grocery store, or the box mix in the baking aisle, we hope you’ll take the time to mix and measure and make a mess of your kitchen in order to get to the sweet reward of those yummy treats.

Why, do you ask? Well here are the top 5 reasons why we believe that you can eat anything you want as long as you make it from SCRATCH:

⒈ The more effort you put into making it, the more you will appreciate the outcome. It’s likely you will eat more mindfully, too, knowing the effort that went into your creation.

⒉ Whether you recognize it or not, you’ll learn some math, science, and art in the process of cooking or baking. You might be practicing fractions, observing something rise in the oven, or creating an artful decoration on a cake.

⒊ All of the ingredients will be pronounceable. Which means less processed food. I mean really, do you keep a bottle of high-fructose corn syrup in your pantry? We don’t either.

⒋ Time well spent learning a life skill. The more your kids learn now, the more self sufficient they will be when they’re eventually living in their own place. And who knows, maybe they’ll learn enough to make you dinner someday!

⒌ Create something that you can be proud of, that’s both sharable and delicious. The “I made this myself!” factor is HUGE and will help build confidence not only in cooking, but life. And, the results of your effort will be tasty too….for the entire family!

We hope you’ll take this to heart and try and make your next treat from scratch! If at first you don’t succeed, try again. And, if you’d like a little help to get started, check out our Sweet Treats series of classes, starting January 24th!
