Valentine's Day Breakfast!

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and food is a great way to share your love! Sure, there are a plethora of heart shaped treats out there to purchase, but we think it's a wonderful show of affection to make something yourself! Why not make some heart-shaped REAL FOOD instead of buying the packaged stuff at the store. It's easier than you think!

My kids typically have to make their own breakfast, but Friday morning I'll continue my annual Valentine’s Day tradition of making them a heart-shaped breakfast before school. I typically make pancakes, and this year I’ll add some heart-shaped eggs.

Pancakes.

In the past, I've poured pancake batter into a liquid measuring cup, then drizzled it on the pan in a heart outline, and then filled it in. It's not too complicated and the kids don't mind if your hearts aren't perfectly shaped. This year, I'm going to use a squeeze bottle sold at the Kitchen Collage, and it makes it even easier! I made these shaped pancakes using the squeeze bottle with both my after-school cooking club and a class at the Kitchen Collage, and they came out great every time!

Frittatas.

Kids love hand-held versions of just about anything, so I've been making lots of heart shaped frittatas over the past week, and Friday morning breakfast will be no exception! This silicone tray is from the Kitchen Collage and you can be sure that they only carry silicone items made to the highest standard. Just dice up some veggies and put them in the bottom, pour in the equivalent of one large whisked egg per heart, and sprinkle a bit of cheese on top! Bake for about 20 minutes and you have the perfect compliment to your pancakes.

A nutritious heart-shaped breakfast is a great way to kick-start your child's Valentine's Day! And, you can re-use the silicone baking tray to make some heart-shaped muffins or cupcakes for the afternoon Valentine's party. The ingredient list is sure to be better than the packaged items you can buy at the store!
